Porvoo’s event calendar will be renewed in February
The event calendar on the City of Porvoo's website will soon be migrated to a new technical platform. Last year the event pages attracted over half a million visits and are among the most popular content on the website. The goal now is to provide a clearer and more user-friendly service for both city residents and event organisers.
Browsing events made easier and searching more versatile
The new calendar provides visitors with a clearer view of events for today, tomorrow and the weekend. In addition to categories, searches can be targeted by venue or event organiser, and special attention has been paid to mobile use.
– With the updated service, browsing events will be smoother, especially on mobile phones. The system highlights current and special events but also keeps recurring events visible, explains vitality expert Tanja Peisala.
– For event visitors, the new service provides valuable information, such as the accessibility of the event venue, which was not previously available. The calendar’s artificial intelligence also suggests other events that visitors might be interested in, adds event manager Katarina Broas.
The event calendar will continue to be available at porvoo.fi/en/events.
New convenient features for event organisers
The new service offers event organisers more tools than before.
– Event announcements can be created directly using Facebook event information and utilising the built-in translation assistance in Finnish, Swedish and English. In addition, events in Porvoo sold through Lippu.fi and Ticketmaster are automatically displayed in the Porvoo event calendar, Peisala explains.
– Organisers also have the opportunity to monitor visitor numbers to event pages and use registration tools. Ticket sales integrated into the platform are available to Stripe account holders, and I hope this will encourage people to try out new concepts with a low threshold, Broas continues.
As usual, Porvoo-info moderates the events that are submitted and publishes them if they meet the publication criteria.
Internationally used platform selected as the best
The update is based on a service comparison conducted in 2025, which resulted in the selection of the internationally used Cruncho platform. It is used not only by companies, but also by many city websites, including those of Vancouver, Toronto, Copenhagen and Lund. Porvoo is the first user of the service in Finland.
The new service is available in February
The new event calendar will be open to the public on Monday, 23 February, at the familiar address porvoo.fi/en/events.
Event organisers can register and add events to the new system starting on 9 February. Guidance on the new service and instructions for entering events and using the new tools can also be found at porvoo.fi/en/events.
