Porvoo for kids

When you explore the narrow cobbled streets and lanes of Old Porvoo, you feel as if you were wandering in the pages of a story book.

Old Porvoo is like a dollhouse city

In the adorable toyshop you can buy a real dollhouse or dollhouse furniture. In the Toy Museum even the grown-ups enjoy reminiscing about their childhood, and in the Porvoo Museum, historic figures come to life at the press of a magic button. A visit to Brunberg’s chocolate and confectionery shop, PetriS Chocolate Room and the Little Chocolate Factory is a treat that every child will love.

Ilola for kids

A steady favourite for families with children is the village of Ilola, approximately 10 km east of Porvoo city centre. In the idyllic countryside environment, you get to explore the Kungsbacka Domestic Animal Farm and the charming Postimäki Outdoor Museum

A family picnic in the park

Kids love outings. Pack a picnic basket full of goodies and spread a picnic blanket on the river bank or near a playground. At the Moomin playground kids can have fun with the Moomin characters. Ruusupuisto, or Rose Park, on Laivurinkatu Street is a great place for kids of all ages. At the top of Kokonniemi is a beautiful parkland area with a superb view of the river and a large green inviting you to play.

Adventures on Linnamäki

Linnamäki, or Castle Hill, on the outskirts of town, has a fascinating history. The paths that criss-cross the hill and the bridges over the mots make a perfect stage for playing Viking games. Linnamäki is one of the most important ancient monuments in the Uusimaa region. It is easy to let your imagination fly in these surroundings.

Play and learn – a trip back in time to the 19th century

Travel back in time, to the era of the Runebergs at the activity area in the outbuilding at the Runeberg’s Home Museum. In June and July you can freely play in this area during the museum opening hours. At other times the Play and Learn facilities are open by agreement and during special events. Kids are welcome to enjoy this space accompanied by an adult.
