Accessibility
The Porvoo Lights artworks are located in the urban environment and often within short distances of each other. City areas are ploughed and sanded by the city before and during the festival. However, weather conditions may affect mobility along the festival route.
Unfortunately, the route is not fully accessible due to the cobblestone streets of Old Porvoo. The season, darkness, snow, and ice may also cause challenges to movement.
Environment
The artworks mainly operate using LED lights, resulting in low energy consumption. The projectors and lighting used in the artworks represent the latest technology and are highly energy‑efficient.
The electricity supplied by Porvoon Energia is 100% carbon‑neutral and emission‑free, verified with guarantees of origin. The total electricity consumption of the festival’s artworks varies from year to year depending on the installations. During the festival, other lights are also turned off because of the artworks, which partly compensates for their energy use. Visitors also reduce their own household energy consumption by attending the event.
Festival visitors are encouraged to use public transport, and free public transport may be available during the festival. Visitors arriving by car are encouraged to move around the festival area on foot.
If any purchases are made, they are sustainable, but for the most part, equipment for Porvoo Lights is rented.
