Have a taste of Porvoo

Sinne belongs to the nobility of Finnish restaurants. Its menu includes high-quality food from close by: meat from the Bosgård farm, local beer and catches from the fishermen of Pellinki. Located in a former factory building, Sinne is an excellent brunch and dinner destination. Bistro Sinne has been awarded the Swan label for environmental friendliness.

Voted one of the best restaurants in Finland, SicaPelle is an all-night experience, with a nine-course tasting menu that takes around 3.5 hours to enjoy. Named after sculptor Ville Vallgren's pet pig, SicaPelle is located in the basement of an old wooden house at the side of Porvoo Cathedral.

Pellinge Marina is at its best on a beautiful summer's day, with the sun glistening on the surface of the sea and the sea breeze on the terrace. The restaurant in the modern tourist centre, built in a former fisherman's cottage, serves the flavours of the archipelago, including fresh fish and vegetables from local farmers. In the spring of 2024, the entrepreneurs of the popular home-cooking restaurant Hanna Maria set up a summer café in the rural landscape of Kerkkoo, along the Porvoo River. The Kerkkoon Pumppaamo offers a variety of sweet and savoury dishes, as well as events and activities such as community singing and flea markets. The café is only open during the summer. You should also try Hanna Maria's Finnish home cooking in the heart of Old Porvoo.

Winner of two first places and one third place in the Finnish Best Beer competition, Kråkö Bryggeri is an excellent summer day out. The brewery is located 15 kilometres from Porvoo and can be reached by bike, boat or car. Surrounded by nature, beach and art, you can enjoy a fresh drink and a snack.

The small craft brewery is known for its Porvoo village beer series. The brewery has bottled flavours from the seaside Hamar, idyllic Ilola and its home village of Kerkkoo, among others. The beer is served in several local restaurants, including Bistro Sinne.

Ani's Café, a sweet vegetarian restaurant, offers a menu of vegetarian food and pastries. Ani's Café will be serving at Porvoo Market in summer 2025.

Restaurant Salt is not a vegetarian restaurant, but its Finnish-Scandinavian menu is plant-based and many dishes are vegan. The menu includes meat, fish, vegetables and harvest flavours. The dishes favour local and small-scale ingredients. Salt is located next to Porvoo Cathedral, in a historically significant 17th century building. In the same house, the peasants' assembly of the 1809 Porvoo Diet met.

Lovers of good meaty food should head to Meet District. Located in the heart of Old Porvoo, the restaurant's menu features charcoal-grilled dry-aged meat, seasonal harvests and wines from Italy, all picked by the restaurant itself. The menu also includes delicious belly-filling vegetarian options.

Zum Biespiel, located at the gateway to Old Porvoo, has a relaxed European atmosphere. The spacious restaurant serves homemade pastas, soups and sourdough breads, among other things. Zum Biespiel uses 70% organic ingredients and won the Organic World Cup in 2020 and 2022 as the restaurant with the most organic ingredients.

The relaxed and popular Porvoon Paahtumo is like the living room of Porvoo. The old brick building has been a Porvoo landmark for around 120 years, and for the past 20 years it has been a regular meeting place for Porvoo residents to sit late into the night and sip beer or wine. There's also a full range of beers on offer and always something to bake. There is an old barge and a terrace in front of the building. You can also buy delicious coffee to go.

One of Porvoo's newest arrivals, Kahvila Tove offers gelato, breads and pastries. The atmosphere is fresh and stylish, with influences from southern Europe. Café Tove's delicacies can be enjoyed inside the old wooden house or at the outdoor tables in the cobbled side porch.

For more than 40 years, Porvoon Lakritsi, Finland's largest manufacturer of metrelicorice, has been delighting visitors to markets, amusement parks and events with its colourful sweets. Porvoon Lakritsi also has possibly the smallest factory outlet in Finland, located at the foot of the Old Porvoo Bridge. Take a peek inside and be surprised.

A lover of handmade artisan chocolates will be spoilt in Porvoo. The Petris Chocolate Room, located on Jokikatu Street, offers chocolate plates, pralines, confections and many other chocolate delicacies.

You can get pizza in almost every other block in Porvoo, but Via Armonia is one of the best pizza places. Via Armonia serves pizza cooked in a Neapolitan style in an open fire oven. The pizzas are served in an atmospheric house, over 100 years old, with large arched windows. The atmosphere is that of Naples.

Sakura Sushi has quickly gained popularity, especially with families with children. Set in an old wooden house, the restaurant offers a buffet of sushi, Chinese food, soups and desserts. The restaurant is located on Mannerheiminkatu.
