A Musical Tour Guides Listeners Through the Musical History of Porvoo. It is a walking tour and a moving concert that reveals the city’s past through storytelling, playing, and singing.
Join us to hear how the hurdy-gurdy, jaw harp, barrel organ, and jouhikko sound. Do you know how the Piae Cantiones collection is connected to Porvoo? What kind of music did the fiddlers from Pellinge play? And who was Aksel August Lähteenkorva?
The guide for the event is musician and local Porvoo guide Kirsi Ojala, along with her musician colleagues.
Tours are organized on both days at 10 AM and 1 PM. The total duration is about 1.5 hours. Finnish-language tours are on August 26 at 10 AM and 1 PM and on August 27 at 10 AM. The Swedish-language tour is on August 27 at 1 PM.
The tour starts at the Old Town Hall Square and ends at Ida Maria’s event space at Jokikatu 49.
The price for the tour is €4 per person, and each tour can accommodate 20 people. Tickets are available in Porvoo city’s online store starting June 5.
The walking part is short, only about a kilometer, but the route is challenging due to cobblestone streets and relatively steep uphill and downhill sections. Therefore, please choose sturdy and comfortable footwear. The tour consists of about 50 minutes outdoors and about 25 minutes of concert indoors at Ida Maria’s event space. In case of rain, the entire event will be held indoors.
The musical tour is part of a series of events organized by Porvoo city’s cultural services, offering refreshing cultural experiences for Porvoo’s seniors.
