Greenhouse gas emissions in Porvoo

Porvoon kaupunki on HINKU -foorumin (Hiilineutraalit kunnat) jäsen. HINKU -kunnat tavoittelevat 80 prosentin päästövähennystä vuoden 2007 tasosta. Verkostoa koordinoi Suomen ympäristökeskus (Syke), joka suorittaa vuosittain HINKU -kunnille päästölaskennan.

The City of Porvoo is a member of the HINKU Forum (Carbon Neutral Municipalities). HINKU municipalities aim for an 80% reduction in emissions from the 2007 level. The network is coordinated by the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), which conducts annual emission calculations for the HINKU municipalities.

SYKE receives the necessary data for the emission calculation automatically from background sources. So the cities and municipalities do not report their activities to SYKE. The calculation takes into account e.g. traffic passing through, which means an increased amount of greenhouse gas emissions for Porvoo due to the traffic on main road 7 (E18). The greenhouse gas emissions from electricity are calculated with the national electricity emission factor, which does not take into account the emission-free electricity sold by the company.

Porvoo’s greenhouse gas emissions per capita have been reduced by approximately 30 per cent from the 2007 level.

Porvoon asukaskohtaiset kasvihuonekaasupäästöt ovat vähentyneet vuoden 2007 tasosta noin 30 prosenttia.
