Carbon Neutral Municipalities (HINKU)
The HINKU Forum is a network of pioneers in climate change mitigation. The network brings together municipalities that have committed to ambitious reductions in emissions, companies producing climate-friendly products and services and experts in energy and climate issues. As a HINKU municipality, Porvoo is committed to aiming for an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the 2007 level by 2030. The project is led by the Finnish Environment Institute.
Circwaste – Towards circular economy
Circwaste is a seven-year project that promotes efficient use of material flows, waste prevention and recycling of materials. The objective is to direct Finland towards a circular economy and to carry out the national waste plan. The project is funded in large part by the LIFE programme of the European Commission, and in Finland the project is coordinated by the Finnish Environment Institute.
Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC)
The aim of the coalition is to affect the Finnish business sector’s and research organisations’ general competitiveness, readiness to respond to the threats brought by climate change and the insufficiency of natural resources and the ability to make use of the business opportunities brought by these. The coalition promotes the popularisation of the best international practices in their field and bringing them to Finland. The basic principle of the coalition is that profitable and sustainable business is the most effective way of responding to global environmental challenges.
Towards Carbon Neutral Municipalities and Regions (CANEMURE)
The project puts the Finnish climate policy into practice, focusing particularly on the policies of the Energy and Climate Strategy and the Medium-term Climate Change Plan. The aim of the project is to promote smart and low-carbon transport, increase the production of distributed renewable energy and improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
